Well, 2015 was quite a year for The Changing Room. It started with us winning Kan Rag Kernow (Song for Cornwall) competition in January. We then had the privilege of representing Cornwall in the International Pan Celtic Song Contest held in Ireland in April, which we also won.
We were shortlisted for best debut album in the FATEA Awards. We secured three 4* reviews and a host of fantastic album profiles for our releases. We were lucky enough to have band features in Cornwall Today, Western Morning News, Celtic Life Canada, R2 (Rock ‘n’ Reel) Magazine and many other top publications.
We were invited to record a www.songsfromtheshed.com session. We performed live in session on BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Radio Cornwall. We enjoyed regular airplay on specialist shows all around the world, as well as on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 2. In October we unveiled our new animated video for the release of our single ‘I’ll Give You My Voice’. We performed on BBC News in the South West, live from the Royal Cornwall Show.
We collaborated with some amazing people both in the studio and on stage, including John McCusker, Boo Hewerdine, Jennifer Crook, The Oggymen, Jon Cleave, and 3 Daft Monkeys. We joined forces with Kelda from TRJ Management, and she now books our live shows. We were invited to perform at Lorient International Celtic Festival as part of the Cornish contingent in August (in some amazing venues) and we performed live in Cornwall, Ireland, Brittany and across the UK on the first part of our winter tour.
We were lucky enough to be awarded funding for our tour by Help Musicians UK and PledgeMusic, as part of the Emerging Talent scheme. In the autumn, we started recording our second album which features more very special guests, and which we’re planning to share with you in a few months time.
We’ve met so many wonderful people in the past couple of years and this is the most important of all the benefits of The Changing Room and of folk music. Thank you to all our followers and fans for your support, for buying and sharing our music, for your lovely comments on social media and for promoting and coming to see our live shows. Please join us on the last leg of our current winter tour as we’re not touring again until November/December.
